About the Artist

Wai Ching

My name is Wai Ching Schroeder, an artist and dreamer. I believe artists are the creative minds and future leaders. Growing up in a big family from Hong Kong, I became financially independent at a young age. In 2000, I took my first step towards pursuing my dreams by participating in the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration. At 17, I left home with empty suitcases and arrived in America miraculously, thanks to a supportive religious teacher. Working two jobs while attending college, I obtained a nursing degree with high honors. As a registered nurse with a passion for travel, I’ve worked as a medical officer on cruises and gained a unique perspective on the world. Since 2016, I’ve delved into screenwriting and painting, driven by my longing for purpose and a desire to create. Being a dreamer and embracing the freedom to create is my ultimate pursuit.

Sorrow Beyond Word, 2019

I am sorry for your loss.
Given a little background information about Artist W:
This piece of artwork “Sorrow Beyond Word” is created when Artist W was shocked and torn from the death of her coworker’s nine years old daughter who was killed in an ATV accident. The loss of a child is beyond Artist W’s comprehension. Yet, what she could do is to sympathize but never understand.

In this painting, there is an upper body (the black line at the center top below the color of cerulean blue) whose head (on the right, next to bright orange color) faces down. Within the upper body, the ultramarine blue lines on the left create the image of a woman holding an infant, who is drawn as red lines on the right above the triangular black lines. The triangular black lines at the center is the eye of the woman with hair made up of red and purple lines.
The green and blue lines that locate at the bottom half of the painting represents water.

This painting expresses the deep sorrow of the mother who lost her juvenile daughter. The mother places her infant to the water, as the water carries the infant to far where the mother can no longer reach. The creation of this artwork is a process of grief from sympathizing with the mother who lost a young child.

“Sorrow Beyond Word. I am sorry for your loss.”
It expresses the deepest sympathy of Artist W towards her coworker.
